ARTISTS STATEMENT
My fabric art is not to “fool the eye” but to draw a viewer into taking a closer look at what they see; as art imitates life where things aren’t always as they appear.
Creating is a form of meditation that keeps me in the present moment. I envision a subject in cloth and then affix cut shapes of fabric onto a surface. Fiber is a pleasure to work with, being soft to the touch, as I feel the subtle difference of each texture’s weave passing through my fingers.
I never tire of standing back from my easel and looking at the image on my canvas for that final moment when nothing interrupts my eye, and I see an aura of energy flowing within and around the subject that gives it a life all its own.
That is when I know my work is complete.
